Senator Paul Sarbanes was one of the founding congressional leaders of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus in 1988. Throughout his tenure as U.S. senator, he has been a strong advocate on fire service issues, and was a great friend to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. On April 6, he delivered this farewell address to the fire service at the 18th National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation is proud to announce the selection of Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann as a recipient of the Firefighter Life Safety "Seal of Excellence" Award.
The firefighter safety initiatives, from the "Everyone Goes Home" organization, are an important step in reducing the fatalities and injuries to firefighters. But at best they are a stop gap measure. The solution that is desperately needed are residential fire sprinkler systems everywhere, period.

The Bergen Record, a northern New Jersey large-circulation daily newspaper, recently published an article, "Firefighter Health a Cause for Alarm," examining firefighter line-of-duty deaths in the state. Not surprisingly, its focus narrowed in on the 80 percent of firefighter deaths in New Jersey that have been linked to heart attacks.
"Privately Owned Vehicle Operations: Answering the Call Safely," part of the VFIS Safety and Risk Management Video Series, helps emergency service officers provide proper training and develop standard operating guidelines and other management tools to help reduce the risks associated with driving POVs.
